COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS & CHARGES

BUDGET & FINANCE COMMITTEE
Description: This Committee establishes an operating budget for the Association in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, based on revenue forecasts , corresponding expenses, and the Strategic Plan. The preliminary budget is drafted by the Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.

Charge: Monitor effectiveness of the budget, adjusting as necessary, and financial statement review.

EDUCATION
Description: Schedule and plan an annual calendar of educational classes and general membership luncheon speakers. These classes and speakers are to be in addition to any planned by other committees. Goal is to provide as many continuing education opportunities for members, and to raise revenue over expenses for the year. Committee is responsible for contacting speakers, obtaining resumes and creating agenda. Staff will also conduct publicity, registration at the door, and distribution of participation certificates. Staff will coordinate room needs and assist in other areas when possible.

Charge: Explore educational forums and guest speakers in an effort to reach the most members. Provide class agendas and information to staff for release to the membership.

FAIR HOUSING & EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMITTEE
Description: To demonstrate the commitment of equal professional service to members and to the public by providing ongoing education programs, annually reviewing the Fair Housing Partnership Act, and informing members of their obligations under the equal opportunity and fair housing laws.

Charge: Work to fulfill Board's obligations regarding the Fair Housing Partnership Act. Submit information to the EAR staff for release to the membership.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Description: The function of this Committee is to liaison with the legislative committee of OAR, and provide input to the committee as part of the OAR policy development process. To accomplish these tasks, the Committee monitors local officials whose positions impact the real estate industry. Additionally, the Committee offers endorsement recommendations to the Board of Directors, and works to coordinate a political awareness campaign among EAR members.

Charge: Develop programs to 1) educate members on the benefits and function of OAR/EAR’s political forces; and 2) encourage members to participate in political organizations. Provide information to the membership on local political meetings and activities through the EAR office.

GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE
Description: The function of this committee is to give initial consideration to allegations of unethical conduct or arbitration requests, and determine whether a complaint should be the subject for a hearing in its claim and presentation.

Charge: Make the determination whether a complaint should be dismissed or referred to the Professional Standards Committee for a hearing.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Description: Maintain leadership that is strong and effective. To accomplish this goal, a pipeline of future potential leaders is identified, recruited, and exposed to the Association structure. The Committee is chaired by the prior year EAR President.

Charge: Establish a system to recognize potential leadership, and to provide a slate of candidates for Board approval, no later than the May Board meeting. The Board of Directors election is held in July.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS COMMITTEE
Description: This Committee conducts arbitration and ethics hearings as needed, following procedures outlined in the Professional Standards Manual of NAR. The Committee also works to educate EAR members about the Code of Ethics and its applications.

Charge: To provide education to members as to the function and purpose of Professional Standards, to foster a clearer understanding of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, and to provide trained members for ethic and arbitration hearing panel members.

REALTOR® of the YEAR COMMITTEE
Description: The objective is to select an EAR member whose personal and professional accomplishments are worthy of formal recognition by the Association and local community. The committee is chaired by the prior year's ROTY.

Charge: Provide criteria and solicit nominations for the ROTY award from the membership . Make final selection, prepare program and present award at the EAR May general membership luncheon. Prepare and distribute press release, announce recipient, and forward recipient’s application to OAR as a candidate for OAR ROTY.

REALTOR® / ATTORNEY COMMITTEE
Description: To develop an understanding of the viewpoints of both groups through open communication and networking.

Charge: Hold monthly meetings with timely topics and speakers relevant to both professions.

SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
Description: The purpose of this Committee is to communicate, educate, inform, and support the REALTORS® of the EAR for the promotion of Association's common interest.

Charge: Consider ways to provide positive exposure and support for the Realtor® members through community fund-raising events and Association activities.
